The information should be private and just used for the legal team that is working with the child. When a child has an IEP or in a program they could be treated differently and it is illegal to discriminate towards them. Keeping the information private will help ensure that doesn’t happen. Ways to keep it confidential in a classroom is to shred paper, do not label anything with the child’s name and disability. When talking to other staff members, names should not be used unless you are speaking to coworkers who have had the privacy training. When sending emails, I make sure my computer is not left open and I use the child’s initials and not their name to protect their privacy. Comment as you see fit.
