Annotated bibliography – 1500 words
Annotated bibliographies are a way of becoming familiar with a body of literature about a particular topic and providing a concise summary and critical notes for other readers. As a community development worker, you may be asked to identify, read, and compile these kinds of resources to help inform a range of people about your topic.
For this assignment, we ask that you focus on the theme of ‘story’ (we will explore this more in the early weeks of the unit) AND a community development theme of your choice. Your assignment should explore the connection between the community development theme and story. How have stories played a role in this context? How have they been used to shape the communities? What stories have been told about this theme?
For example, you may like to choose a topic from the unit, such as: stories and sustainable practices, or stories and sport, or stories and women. Or you may like to choose a community development theme of your own, such as: stories and young people, or stories and migrant women, or stories and rural community development, or stories and older people.
This assignment asks you to:
Write a 100 word concise introduction to your chosen topic, why this is an important community development topic, and how it connects to story.
Read and summarise seven different texts:
At least two sources from the unit reading list
At least two sources from your own research relevant to your topic
The remaining sources can be either from the reading list or from your own research.
For each of the seven texts, include an annotated entry in your assignment:
Provide the full reference details at the top of each entry. In this unit we prefer students to use author-date referencing styles such as Chicago or APA.
