Since I am currently in a long-term sub position teaching a first-grade class, this was very beneficial to me. The self-assessment broke down each category and helped me see where I feel I am doing good, or where I might need to improve.
For the first category, Professional Dispositions, I feel I am proficient. The most significant area under Professional Dispositions that must be at the forefront of my mind, is diversity of others. Almost the entire student body at my school comes from poverty. So many of the students in my class are just looking for attention (bad or good). I have bonded with the students in a way that is so special because I want them to know that when they walk into my classroom, they are loved and safe. For that reason, staying aware of the different cultures that are within my classroom and being respectful of that culture is extremely important.
For the inTASC portion of my assessment, I feel like I am emerging in this area. I say emerging because I feel like I could grow in the assessment area of my teaching and instructional planning. I have found planning to be a challenge because over 1/2 of my class is below grade level. In addition, 3 out of 5 days of the week my planning period is spent in meetings. I have very little time for actual planning to take place.
For the SPA portion of my assessment, I feel that I am proficient in this area. I have already been in contact with several of my parents and had meaningful conversations with them. I use class dojo to communicate with them as well. In addition, I have 15 years prior experience in preschool and have used these standards in that area as well. comment as you see fit. min 50 words
