3.0 Assessment Description For this assignment, you will provide a written reflection on the interview video that you did. This reflection has two parts. Part 1 (800 words) Focus on how you addressed the following areas in your interview recording: • Explaining confidentiality • Building rapport • Empathic responses and reflection of feeling • Open ended questions to explore the client’s presenting situation • Summarising and paraphrasing • Active listening You will also outline ways you can improve your practice. Part 2 (800 words) Focus on how you addressed the following areas in your interview recording: • Use of self when working with others • Understandings of your positionality as a social worker • How you managed your assumptions and feelings during the session, and how this impacted you when working with the client • Considerations of your personal attributes (age, gender, culture, religion, ethnicity, other factors) with those of the client. • Integration of theory in your developing ofsocial work practice skills Critical reflection is a vitalskill for social work practice, as explained below: “Critical reflection is a process (and theory) for unearthing individually held social assumptions in order to make changes in the social world. Reflection is more than just thinking about an experience. It involves a deeper look at the premises on which thinking, actions, and emotions are based” (Fook & Gardner, 2007, p.14, Critical reflection in context applications in health and social care) This process of reflection enables you to deconstruct some of the assumptions you have about social work practice (a process called deconstruction) and make connections between these assumptions and your beliefs for your future practice (a process called reconstruction). Critical reflection must be an analysis that examines meaning and relationships and is not merely a description of events. A minimum of 8 references is required for your written paper. These references should include unit readings to demonstrate your understanding of key practice concepts covered in this unit: For critical reflection: Morley, MacFarlane, and Ablett (2019); Gray, Midgley, & Webb, (2012) For interviewing skills: Chenoweth, & McAuliffe (2018); Morley, Macfarlane & Ablett (2019), PHealy, (2018); Maidment, & Egan (2016)
