Maria is a healthy 9-year-old girl who attends 3rd grade at an elementary school. At home, Maria takes pride in completing basic household chores and keeping her belongings neat and in order.
She has a best friend named Carla, with whom she shares common interests and a similar background. Maria is six months older than Carla, but they are in the same class. Maria laughs at the fact that her 3-year-old brother thinks Carla is older than her because she is taller. Together they enjoy riding bikes and playing on a soccer team. Maria has been playing soccer for several years and has become increasingly skilled and scoring goals and dribbling the soccer ball. She enjoys the cooperation and teamwork that come along with organized sports and has the energy to play for an entire game.The friends also enjoy painting and making beaded jewelry. They take pride in the art and jewelry they create. Once, they accidentally broke one of the necklaces but didn’t worry as they knew it could be easily repaired.
In school, Maria is able to write letters and words clearly to express her thoughts and loves to solve math problems. She takes pride in completing her homework and applying problem-solving strategies to her work. Even though she does well at school, sometimes she can be very critical of herself in comparison to others.
Maria is bi-lingual. She is able to speak English and Spanish fluently as well as read and write in both languages.
