Min 50 words. When I started my degree I had just added SPED to it because I was a military wife, and at the time, my husband wanted to re-enlist at the end of his contract. So for myself, I added SPED because I figured it would make finding a job easier for me, no matter where we ended up. I then got a job as a behavior technician to get some experience in schools, little did I know I would become really good at it and the next 3 years of my life would be designated only to behavioral kids. Now that I have been in the SPED world for 5 years, I have come to love it and realize I am exceptionally good at handle extreme behavioral students. I am able to make connections with them when others can’t, and I am good at coming up with interventions that help them. The biggest realization I have learned throughout my student teaching experience though is, once you are in SPED, it is hard to get out. This particular district will not let you apply for regular teaching positions, if you have your SPED endorsement on your certification. That is something I really have to consider. If I want to teach 1st grade, I want to teach 1st grade. So it is something that I am leaving my degree thinking hard about. What do I want to do, I am good at SPED and love it, but do I want to get stuck in it? comment as you see fit
