Select an historically important event within the life of the Church which gave rise to a development in Church Doctrine. That is, in the way the Church has come to further understand and articulate an aspect of Christ’s teaching. Briefly describe the historical context, noting the historical figures involved, be they saints, Church men, Statemen or lay people and then demonstrate how the situation gave rise to development in Church doctrine. [Note, doctrinal development refers to a further penetration in the Church’s understanding of Christian doctrine, not the promulgation of new doctrine, which the Church is not at liberty to make. Mother Church can only safeguard and further explain Christ’s teaching.]
