ECE360 Assessment Task 2
Response to Case Study Scenario
DETAILS:
1600 words: 40%
Reference: Minimum of 8 – Harvard Style (including specified readings).
DESCRIPTION:
For AT2 you are to critically analyse and appropriately respond to the child maltreatment case study scenario. There are
7 sections
that must be responded to, each containing
specific questions
and require reference to
specific readings.
Engagement with the weekly study guides and core readings is essential. Please see the
3 steps
outlined below for guidance:
STEP 1:
Analyse the Case Study Scenario
Download and carefully read the case study, looking for
physical and behavioural indicators
of at least
2 forms of maltreatment,
as well as
family circumstances
that put the child at risk of these types of maltreatment
Reflect on your learning in the unit and refer to unit resources to assist in your critical analysis of the case study
Highlight/take notes of key details and important information needed to answer the questions
TIP – It is important to correctly identify the types of maltreatment- so take your time & revisit the unit materials!
STEP 2:
Read & Respond to the Case Study Scenario
Carefully read and thoughtfully respond to the AT2 questions
Your work should include the heading of each section and provide the numbering of each of the questions you are answering – or you can write your answers into the template below.
STEP 3:
Support your work with References
Support your responses to each question by referring to the resources outlined at the start of each section – these materials MUST be used to inform your answers, and are all available on Cloud
Accurate Harvard reference style must be used throughout your work
STEP 4:
Proofread & Submit
Use the marking criteria and consider how/if you have clearly and addressed each marking criterion to a high standard
Check the word count and correct any referencing and/or grammatical errors found
Concisely paraphrase as much as possible, including definitions
your responses should not be only direct quotes

. Then, go through your list and highlight the indicators that are in the case study.
Family circumstances and risk factors
REFER TO:
Briggs
Discuss the known family circumstances and/or other factors that put children at risk of the types of maltreatment you identified in the case study

* The teacher’s role is to report, facilitate the referral & support the organization –
not to investigate,
which is the role of DHHS/Police
REFER TO:
Arthur-Kelly et al 2006 (pp. 75-77); Hunter 2002;
and
Goldsworthy 2015.

List
3
open-ended questions that you could ask the child in the case study (based upon the advice you have summarized in Q4a).
List
3
statements you might say to reassure the child (again, use your readings to inform your statements).
* We acknowledge that you may well have developed a belief that abuse is occurring based on behavioural and physical indicators from the case study – this section is intended to
provide you the opportunity to practice the relevant communication skills needed to appropriately respond to a child’s disclosure.
*
The questions you ask should help you to confirm a belief on reasonable grounds that a referral/report needs to be made relating to wellbeing or safety concerns, & should respond directly to the case study.
The decision to act (applicable legislation and policy MUST be referred to)

What sort of information will you need when making a report? (Responding to suspected child abuse: a template for all Victorian schools)
Identify if you will consult the parents before making a report (in relation to the case study), and describe the reasons for your decision with reference to literature.
