If humans can avoid work, then they will do everything in their power to do so. Replacing work done by humans with work done by robots will mean that humans can stop doing work they once did themselves. Also, it is more economical to use robots because they’re faster at most jobs and they don’t care if the office building is heated. For these reasons, it becomes clear that robots will replace most jobs in the future. So, the future for humans won’t involve daily paid work.

In R¨uchhardt’s method of measuring γ, illustrated in Fig. 12.2, a ball of mass m is placed snugly inside a tube (cross-sectional area A) connected to a container of gas (volume V ). The pressure p of the gas inside the container is slightly greater than atmospheric pressure p0 because of the downward force of the ball, so that
Show that if the ball is given a slight downwards displacement, it will undergo simple harmonic motion with period τ given by
[You may neglect friction. As the oscillations are fairly rapid, the changes in p and V which occur can be treated as occurring adiabatically.] In Rinkel’s 1929 modification of this experiment, the ball is held in position in the neck where the gas pressure p in the container is exactly equal to air pressure, and then let drop, the distance L that it falls before it starts to go up again is measured. Show that this distance is given by -

A common use of an op-amp is to convert a current signal into a voltage signal. This configuration is called a transresistance amplifier, as shown in Fig. 3. (Note: In the real world, we call this a transimpedance amplifier. Impedance is just a fancy word to describe resistance as a function of frequency.) Assume that Vss = -Vpp for all the parts of this problem.
(a) What is the value of the current ip in Fig. 3? Hint: Your answer should be in terms of in (b) What is the voltage at the negative terminal of the op-amp u_.? Hint: You answer should be in terms of VREF
(c) Using the results from parts (a) and (b), find an expression of vout in terms of Vref, lin and other relevant parameters.
(d) If we set VREF=OV, calculate the gain of the overall circuit Gr. Note that in this configuration, the input signal is current iin (aside: contrast this with other op-amp circuit examples that you have seen in which the input is typically a voltage), and the output signal is voltage Vout. Therefore, in this case, you will want to report the gain of this circuit as you -
